Technology Strategy

An IT or technology strategy typically takes the form of a structured document that describes the company’s objectives and a way for technology to support them.  Whilst this sounds very “corporate” it makes sense for any sized business of  to think about what it wants to achieve and how technology can help.

We find that simply going through the thought process and distilling a businesses “dreams and plans” into some key objectives is extremely valuable in setting out a roadmap and gaining an understanding of any investment needed.  This roadmap is used to ensure any future decisions are made with the firm’s larger goals in mind.IT strategy

When and how?

We recommend planning for 2 or 3 years and reviewing annually.  After meeting with you and discussing the firm’s goals and some key technology goals we perform some background information gathering to ensure we understand your current technology and setup.  Once we have audited your setup we will review your goals produce the document pack before coming back in to discuss our findings and recommendations.

The technology roadmap

The roadmap document follows a standard structure, designed to ensure we cover all areas.  We look at the agreed objectives and make recommendations aligned to your business plans.  We consider many aspects, including:

  • Standardising and rationalising platforms and applications to reduce complexity and simplify support
  • Services and a means of measuring them – are you getting value
  • The network, both local and internet access
  • Business continuity, disaster planning
  • Security
  • Data management and backups
  • Asset management and service life
  • Objectives to be met within 12m and estimated costs

Once we have reviewed the roadmap with you we will make any corrections needed and return.  We then hold a copy on file for any future discussions to ensure we understand your plans.
